Call me...Ickenham!

I’ve chosen “Ickenham” as my new nom de web. It’s inspired by my favorite character from the work of P. G. Wodehouse: Frederick Altamont Cornwallis Twistleton, 5th Earl of Ickenham, aka “Uncle Fred.” If you don’t know anything about Wodehouse, you are in for a treat—he’s one of the greatest comic writers ever. His books usually are about upper class English eccentrics, twits, ne’er-do-wells, menacing aunts, and young men hopelessly in love. He often throws in a healthy dose of grifters and petty thieves for good measure, too.

Watoosa’s blog is more focused on books (and sundry!), so I’ll leave the longer discussion of Wodehouse to her. But if you want a hilarious read, check out Uncle Fred in the Springtime. Uncle Fred loves nothing so much as a scheme, especially if it involves him assuming a false identity, or (even better) juggling multiple false identities all at once. Since Watoosa has referred to me in print as a “lying bastard,” it’s no wonder I’m drawn to the Earl of Ickenham.

Plus, I think the photo that appears next to my moniker probably resembles Uncle Fred. So for now, it’s “Ickenham.” Let’s see Tim P or Timpe make something off-color out of that!

I once had a bad rash on my ickenham--itched the bejesus out of me. If I recall correctly, took me three weeks with a salve from the Doc before it would go away. Other than removing the short-and-curleys, it finally worked.

PS--Al says I'm sick.

Is that the best you can do?

remember that scene in American Pie part 1 with the pie? Your new moniker makes me think of the nearest possible world where the movie was entitled American Ham.

I bet Al will say I'm sick, too.

Tim P and Timpe unite!

I'm going to call you "Ickie, old man."
I say, Ickie old man, what a capital user name! What what!

Cocktail Time is my favorite Uncle Fred story. Uncle Dynamite is also excellent.

Tim P--I'm disappointed that apparently you've seen the American Pie movie.

Huck--'Twas the best I could do at the Vegas airport making my connecting flight to Ohio, sitting on the floor in a mass of stinking humanity with the slot machines jingling the G-major chord over and over and over...

And for the record, I find the 'Tim P and Timpe' connection quite amusing. Am I the only one that didn't see it earlier?

Two things:

1. I suppose that http://themonocle-cac.blogspot.com is the new URL of Ickenham. Ba-dum-cha!

2. You realize that in the Queen's English your new moniker is pronounced "it'nam", doncha?

Where's the witty rebuff, Cousin It'nam?

And how are the interviews going?

is that like ich bin ein ham (berliner)?

Remember, moving to TN is good for you..........

We've got Bissy and Todd's clan in this weekend. Todd's doing a bunch of home projects for us. We're sad we couldn't secure tickets for GKeiller's New year's eve show at the ryman.

Take care.

Evidently Ickenham doesn't like to post as regularly as CAC did. If this is the case then, despite the hairball-phonetics involved, I vote we bring back CAC.

I've been busy. Deal with it.

Evidently Ickenham can't take a friendly jab either.
